Newegg's lists provide a visual record I can use to update the lists as new components become available. Replacing an item on the list with a new one, I have to check for compatibility with the other items. Sometimes a single change like adding a new processor means choosing a new motherboard and heatsink to keep a working configuration.
I maintain three lists for a value PC, performance PC, and my current system so that I can quickly and easily lookup prices, keep tabs on deals, and provide budget specific consultations. I keep my current PC list so I can see how prices have changed since I bought those components. Often I choose to make purchases when items go on sale, so the current PC list frequently adds up to more than I actually spent (read: Keegoid happy).

I found another benchmark tool for measuring the performance of my computer. It's called Super PI and it simply calculates PI out to 32 million digits. My computer got 'er done in 9 minutes and 36.999 seconds. Not bad for an air cooled Core i5-750 I think.
Since the program was developed in 1995, it didn't recognize my 8 GB worth of memory installed in my system. That's why it put -1 next to Real memory and Available real memory.
Building the fastest possible computer on a budget is always a fun challenge (for me). I have to weigh performance vs. cost for each and every component. One benefit, it allows me to spread out the purchase over many weeks compared to buying a complete system in the store. I usually bundle all the components with shipping costs into one checkout to save on shipping, and then I can buy everything else with free shipping as funds become available. I recommend starting with the case, this way you can add components into it as they arrive and check that they fit. Much easier to send something back sooner than later, especially for components that have limited return periods. You may also run into a problem you didn't anticipate that forces you to go a different direction. It's best to discover that before ordering everything.
