Transit Navigation (Beta) in Google Maps 5.7 for Android, Lets You Know When It’s Time to Get Off The Train - Lifehacker
This is a long-awaited feature for public transit users. I can't wait to try it out!

Computer driven cars are getting closer to reality! I hate driving. A waste of time and energy I could put into other things. Imagine how many deaths could be prevented each year, assuming of course that computer controlled cars rarely crash.
I'm glad to see this technology keeps getting better! Traffic jams are a pain I will deal with less often from now on!
Finally a smooth scrolling, tilting, rotating, zooming, auto rotating, 3D, vector based map for mobile! I also love how it will store data on the phone for offline mode. No more losing the map or route in tunnels and subways...nice.
In the past, one of the more difficult things to do with Google Maps for mobile was to follow the walking directions while walking. It was just not simple enough. Now that Google Maps Navigation supports walking navigation style directions, I won't be walking into street poles or pot holes trying to figure out where to walk next. =)
I've waited almost two years for a phone to be made that has everything I need, and this is it!
After reading the review, I'm certain this phone will be amazing! Many of the problems reported in the review are software related, and will likely be fixed with over-the-air updates.
Since this phone doubles as a decent GPS, I can avoid paying several hundred for that TomTom I've been eying. I can also justify the cost since my productivity will improve and allow me to be more responsive to my clients.
The final piece to the puzzle is Google Voice. I'm planning to use it in conjunction with Verizon's Friends & Family numbers so it won't use up my monthly allocation of minutes. Apple infamously rejected the Google Voice app for the iPhone, although they say they're still considering it I believe to stay out of trouble with the FCC.
Might this be the future of GPS navigation? All I can say is wow! Now I really want the Droid from Verizon.
One thing worth mentioning is Google Map's live traffic may be the best traffic service yet. It's free for one, and it uses data from other people's Internet connected phones with Google Maps installed to provide traffic data on side streets as well!
